About Us
Sport climbing is a variant of rock climbing that involves fixed protection. It is more concerned with athletic ability and speed of movement involved in climbing rather than the exploratory aspect of traditional climbing.The Sport Climbing Students' Society, HKUSTSU, was established in 1994. Mr Nelson LAM, who was a student, posted a message on the University’s notice board in the search for a climbing partner. Miss Theresa LEUNG of the Student Affairs Office invited Mr LAM to introduce sport climbing to the University. The two have worked closely together since then to establish a temporary climbing wall and organize sport climbing workshops. In 1997 the permanent wall that stands presently in LG4 was built. Since then there have been a few climbing clubs at the University with the latest one being organized in the early 2012.
Our Climbing Wall
The Climbing wall is 8 meters tall, with a width of 4 meters.
People can climb without rope below the red line which indicates a height lower than 3 meters, to go higher, a rope is needed and an belayer will help you go to the top.

Time: 7pm - 10pm
Venue: LG4 Sport Climbing WallEveryone can join, no matter if you are a member or not.
You do not need to pay for joining the training sessions.
We offer free rental service of shoes, harnesses and chalk to our club members. For non-members, check out the price for rental below.Please make sure to wear suitable clothes and wear socks if you need to wear our climbing shoes.
Training Facilities
The Updated Hangboard Area has a pegboard, and two fingerboards.
Weights and Tools
We have weight lifting pins up to total weight of 65kg. It could be used at weighted training or finger training.
Stretching and others
We do have a lot of stretching tools like resistance bands, foam bricks, yoga mats and more. If you would like to know more and use them, feel free to join our climbing sessions to try out them!
Our Clmbing Team
Our Climbing Team participate competitions representing HKUST.HKUST-UMAC Cup is a competition hosting between the two universities and we have a top rope climbing competition with qualifications and finals.
We also go to the Cheung Chau Bun Carnival joining the climbing carnival.
We do participate in joint school competitions too.
